Is there a benefit to taking one scoop of protein as your pre-workout meal versus just taking BCAA before and/or during your workout?

Is there a benefit to taking one scoop of protein as your pre-workout meal versus just taking BCAA before and/or during your workout?

Answer: If needed, BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids) should ingested before the workout. Using BCAAs with a pre-workout snack such as a dotFIT shake or ready-to-eat bar (protein by itself is not an ideal pre-workout snack because the snack must also contain carbohydrates to be most effective) is a common practice during intense training and dieting. But this may be overkill for the average exerciser. The harder you train the better the case for doing both, especially if you are keeping your body fat down or dieting as bodybuilders do for competition. There are additional benefits to using a more complete protein/carbohydrate/fat liquid meal pre- or post-workout. These include reducing muscle damage, replenishing muscle glycogen stores and stimulating insulin release to begin muscle recovery and growth.
